When I got a call to do his grooming 2 weeks ago I nearly dropped the phone. I was like...is this for real? hehhe. I refuse to believe it until yesterday when it actually happened. Let me recount everything for everyone on how everything went.

1. I was at the Pen exactly 930 AM
2. We went up to the room wherein the interviews/presscon is going to be held.
3. I met David's handlers and we were given instructions.
4. Myx crew arrived and did their set up.
5. Kris and I also prepared our things and took a reallllly deeeeep breath.
6. At exactly 10:15 I met David and we proceeded to do the grooming.
7. He was really charming and everything and we got to talk and all.
8. He said he wanted very minimal makeup. His skin is very smooth and so I just did a quick airbrush makeup for him. He was saying "Oh this is so cool, it feels cold" while smiling.
9. He asked me what music I was listening to and I answered Bruno Mars. He said that he also love love Bruno Mars' music.
10. He asked me if I know Adele's music. I said yes and told him I love "Chasing Pavements". He said he loves Adele also and i should check out Adele's new song which was already uploaded in youtube.
11. He complimented my necklace.."That's a nice owl"...hehhe
12. After that muntik na ako himatayin..jusko...heh
13. Then it's a long slew of interviews for him.
14. Myx was first, then Ricky Lo, Raymond Gutierrez, Tim Yap, ruffa gutierrez, grace lee, chico, then publications and print, then some lucky fans.
15. In between we did touch ups and he was really having a good time all throughout.
16. After wrapping up the interviews he shook my hand and said thank you and see you later.
17. We then proceeded to Sm North and secured our spots and watched the show.
18. We dropped by one last time to see David and we had our picture taken and he kept saying thanks and we kept saying thanks and we just all laughed at the end.

It was really nice meeting you David and thank you for being such a nice person in spite of being a really big celebrity.

Candice was referred by my former bride Elsa. Location was at Manila Diamond. I love that hotel. I like it when I get to work facing the beautiful view of Manila Bay. Krista is a family friend. I had fun doing her makeup because her theme is a favorite of mine!! Vintage! She wore a fascinator as a veil. Wore a very simple sheath plain satin gown accessories are pearls and the chicken bag...so posh noh?! I kept her makeup super minimal on the eyes and used Russian Red lipstick on her lips...the end product is simply stunning... she carried everything flawlessly.

I missed doing smoky eyes...just with the right technique..chinita girls need not fear doing smoky eyes..

Steps on how to achieve the look:

1. Make sure to use shimmer eyeshadow on the inner corners of your eyes...shimmering silver is the way to go

2. on the outer v contour eyes by using black shadow

3. highlight the browbone..i used kitten by stilla

4. carefully rim the entire eyes with black kohl liner...dont forget the waterlines

5. put exag eyelashes to further open your eyes

6. the "trick" is with shimmering silver/white in the inner corners of the eyes..this is crucial in opening your eyes and of course the lashes galore :D

7. use a pink sheer blush

8 and pink gloss over pink noveau of MAC will complete the look...

am still in the process of figuring out how to do videos on my macbook...once done i can post makeup video tutorials!! weee :))

basically i used only 3 colors for the eyes...silver, black and kitten so go!! do your own version :D

I can consider myself as a "smart" shopper when it comes to buying makeup for work, Heck, I dont even buy makeup for myself for the sole reason that i dont put any...yeah I am a makeup artist who does not wear makeup..the funniest contradiction ever. I love putting makeup on other people that is why I am in this profession. I love the transformations...the smiles and the appreciation of clients. If they feel beautiful then my job is done.

When I started with makeup school I only have 1 traincase which have survived me and which I refuse to sell.. call me sentimental but heck i love Blackie too much to even entertain the thought of selling her. She had been with me at my first ever international gig in HK. I have tried to replace her but I always ended out selling the replacement instead...lol.

But as I accumulate more makeup...I realized that I needed a kit with more space. Good thing my hairstylist offered to sell her traincase for a really low price. I decided to get this baby finally last October.

It proved to be a very good buy because I can "edit" what things to bring. If I am doing grooming for guys I just take the bottom part and if I am doing more faces I tote everything! hahha

But you know what I still miss Blackie so much :( But then again she now sits proudly in my studio..she may be diminutive but she have served me well. We weathered storms (Ondoy) while working, we endured being lost in translation at HK and countless weddings..but then again I am starting a new partnership and so far its going great.

Also I got this baby last Saturday.

AND I couldn't be happier :) Its my ultimate dream kit! :)

Hard work really do pay off.

A QUICK STORY :
Early in my career ( a year or so ago) , I was asked to do makeup for a wedding fashion show. I was working side by side with the "bigwigs" of makeup...xeng zuleta and barbi chan ( to name some) and there I was in my little corner with my little kit with no makeup case with light, sweating and squinting because of the poor lighting ready to freak out anytime...good thing Ms. Barbi Chan was kind enough to lend me her "lights". She was so nice and I am happy coz now I have my own. I don't know if she will remember that incident but I made a little promise to myself that one day I will also return the favor and do the same should the need arise...its time to pay it forward. :)

Letter Day Story "Paano" MTV

There were a lot of pleasant surprises in this shoot.

1. I just found out that I know and have worked with the female lead (Kate)

2. That shooting in Escolta can be a lot of fun...the architecture is amazing

3. The dog's owner is an old acquaintance of my husband.

4. That seeing a pool made of milk would make me want to dunk my whole face in it thinking that it will be good for my skin :P

AND

5. It will literally take us 24 hours to shoot the video.

To say that it was a lot of hard work is an understatement. As much as we were all tired I have to give it to the band coz not once did I hear them whine, complain amidst being dunked so many times in the milk pool. That actually stopped me from whining myself...and of course I am amazed that I was able to survive it and well the outcome is hella amazing!!

Congrats to the whole team!! I am so proud to have been a part of it :)

I am really not OC when it comes to my gadgets... but with my macbook i decided to purchase some sort of protective case for it. Prices for mac's case can be steep especially when purchased at the apple store. Good thing I chanced upon Apple Werkz FB account and decided to pay them a visit last Tuesday.

I was not able to take photos because we were double parked and it was raining thus I have to be extra quick and all. But what greeted me was a vast and extensive choices of cases and protectors for all Apple products (Macbook, Iphone, Ipad) at much much cheaper prices. I was lemming for some Iphone cases but as the situation would have it I didn't have the time.

Anyway let me share with you Macky's case. It really does the job of protecting Macky from scratches and it fits snugly in my bag. Its padded which is a good thing :) Some stores do sell laptop cases at much cheaper prices but then again the quality is so so.

I always am in front of the computer. Its relatively one of my "most" used gadgets next to my phone of course :) Last year I bought a netbook and don't get me wrong i loved it. But then again ever since I bought my iphone I have been so curious on how Mac computers work.

I am never ever letting go of my iphone. I love it to bits. I love how simple everything are and because of that I decided to make the "switch". I decided to try and see for myself what is the big fuss about Mac computers.

I finally got mine yesterday and today I am so familiar with it and now I understand the "big fuss". Everything is so simple. Its aesthetically pretty and at the same time so user friendly. I used to be "intimidated" by it, but now I totally agree with my Mac user friends that "Once you go Mac, you ain't going back".

Here is my Macky...she is so pretty eh? I particularly like the lighted apple logo...so posh :))

Yes I have been neglecting this blog for quite sometime...I had been really busy and now I am finding myself having some ample time to update my blog...( tomorrow is a different story though) :P

Anyway I just wrapped up 2 makeup workshops. Here are some pictures :)

WORKSHOP 1

360 Makeup and me collaborated and we did this at New Horizon Hotel. We had at least 12 attendees and 3 were from Baguio. I was so touched and impressed with their dedication to learn makeup and they told me that they learned a lot and it was indeed worth the 12 hour trip (back and forth) to Manila.

The second one was a more intimate and I held it at my makeup studio. My contacts in FB requested me to do another one. It took only 1 week to plan. But it was also very successful and I am so proud of them because they really did great :)

Eevee MTV - Waiter

I cannot summarise enough how hard it is to shoot a music video... the long hours and everything. But one thing is for sure, once the final product is released all the "hirap" is replaced with a certain sense of achievement.

I am particularly fond of Eevee because they are all super nice and humble and down to earth. Super no reklamo everytime we would work together. Given that they are one of the fast rising bands in the market...literal na walang reklamo and all are very professional...if only everyone will be like them in the industry. :P

I did a shoot with Eat Bulaga's Brazilian hottie Daiana M at Bolina Pangasinan last week. I wish I could tell you what its for but due to confidentiality chorva I cannot. Though I can share with you the look that I did for her.

Since we are shooting at a beach I made use of gold/neutral tones. I really love Nars' multiple in South Beach hence I used it on her lids, lips and cheeks. I topped it with gold toned eyeshadows and smoked out her eyes to give her that sultry look. For her lip shade I used Lancome and topped it with gloss from Estee Lauder.

Here is the outcome :)

I seem to be getting a lot of clients whose kids are celebrating their bday. Thanks to Ms Gie Shi who gave good recommendation via girl talk. I met Aleli via her sister Abby whose kid also celebrated her 1st bday last month. Aleli likewise asked me to do her makeup for her sons bday party.

I was shocked to know that she went through a very bad experience with regards to eyelash extension. Apparently the one who did her eyelash extension was not so equipped to do the said procedure. She ended up having to pluck her eyelashes together with the extension..Oh my God. I can just imagine the pain the she went through. My heart really went out to her and she requested me to apply false lashes to her. My concern at that time was that "walang kakapitan" ang false lashes coz she doesent have any eyelashed na to begin with. Good thing it worked out fine in the end. Phew!!

So lessoned learned please girls if you have to get hat eyelash extension look and research for good and trusted salons who specializes in that. Eyelashes takes a lot of time to grow out so please please be careful! I dont recommend it in the first place because it is so high maintenance. Mascara and lash curling will do the trick na...here is a picture that I grabbed from Aleli. I just did a very neutral look for her and she rocked it!! I love Aleli!!

What a hectic Saturday it was! I started the day quite early for a wedding in Tagaytay. Was not able to meet the bride beforehand and I was so flatered that they decided to book even if we did not meet in person. They just looked at my folio and they trusted me na to do the makeup. My bride Glen was super nice and trusted me enough to do whatever I do best, and because of it I enjoyed every minute with her and her family. I did 9 heads or more...after the 4th client I stopped counting..lol. Here are some photos I grabbed from Eventus..I was not able to take any other photos coz I need to be done by 7am...hehhe

Strange name for a nail salon but trust me when I say every penny spent is worth it! Today is my 3rd time to visit and the services offered gets better and better :) Today they let me use the IPAD! hahha and as I type this I am now scouring ebay for an IPAD seller! OMG! hahhaha

You get to use this for FREE (Php500 worth of treatment/nail services). Plus Step Up 2 is showing in their flat screens so I was not bored at all.

Since I dont get to have my mani/pedi done regularly I decided to splurge a bit and avail of their special combo of Mani/Pedi plus paraffin treatment for hands and feet which costs 999 pesos. I decided to have dark purple with red and silver glitters and here is the finished product :D

The last time I went there I was a bit disappointed because the staff kept on pushing products my way. Good thing nothing like that happened. Hope it stays that way! Customers will ASK if they are interested :)

I love lip liners! It makes lipsticks last longer and it makes as a good base prior to lipstick application. But I always get frustrated because super few drugstore brands carries "good lipliners". That is why I was super happy when I found out that wet n wild is already available here in the PI!

Being a makeup artist I do not have to luxury of "sick leaves". But being human I do get sick and it is a problem if i am sick when gigs are booked beforehand.

I had a very high fever when we did the shoot...when you click the link you will see that the environment is really uncomfortable smoke-fire-fever=disaster. I have to put a brave face and just braced myself for the inevitable..good thing Kris was there to help me move about and took care of retouch etc. I love the outcome and it was all worth it!

I love everything vintage! It is just fascinating to go back in time and see how people have lived their lives then. Hence the reason why I chose to do a very "vintage" theme for my makeup studio. I have a quirky personality and though I love doing natural looks (which is by far the safest look ever!) I have a personality that is fun loving, colorful and yess youthful! Lol!

Whenever my friend Edric calls I know that I am going to be doing an out of the box makeup which involves making dedma the peg all together and just going with the flow! His ideas are so out of this world and I LOVE IT! Hello. I am so so sawa na doing the same "safe" looks over and over again! What we did this time is so PAK (wala na ako masabi) hahha.. We did 3 looks and Ral (our model) is the ever willing victim! hahhah

Look: No eyebrows/super blue lips (we had fun trading comments back and forth in FB and having her friends believe that I did "shaved" her brows...her friends totally bought it!! lol

FACT: Of course I did not shave her brows...hahhah I used layers of concealer and lots of PATIENCE...her brows were oh so black! Challenge but am happy how it turned out... LOOK!

Tips for Brides

I love doing weddings! I can consider it as my most favorite event of all time. So really, when I get to do wedding gigs, I am at my happiest. I have done a few and I believe that the following tips can help those brides-to-be a lot! Please read carefully and bear in mind that these tips are meant to lessen or even relieve you of those unnecessary stress with regards to the makeup aspect on your special day :D

1. Do a trial makeup!

Shelling out dough for this at first may sound a lot but believe me when I say that this will be a BIG help for you. In trial makeups, you get to discuss with your makeup artist specifically what look you want for your day (Airbrush/Traditional). This comes extremely handy for the hairstyle, since the hairstylist can actually recommend a specific style that will suit your hair type. Most of my brides schedule their trial makeups to coincide with their pre nuptial shoots. So that is actually hitting 2 birds with one!

2. 4 hours (minimum) is needed for hair and makeup!

I myself allot 4 to 5 hours minimum of prep time. This means that me and my team arrives promptly 4 hours before the actual time that you will march down the aisle. It may seem a LOT of time but believe me that this is just right. The photographers will need the bride to be ready 2 hours before for the necessary "shots". The hairstylist needs time to set your hair etc. Of course the time also allow for emergencies that may actually happen.

3. Do not condition your hair!

Yes you read that right! Do not condition your hair when you wash it on the day of your wedding. Conditioning your hair makes it a bit harder to style especially if you want an elaborate updo.

4. Hire a wedding coordinator! (even only for the actual day)

I do not know the going rate for coordinators, but I have seen and witnessed how they work and believe me, it is all worth the money because getting them will make you relaxed and stress free. If you want good coordinators, message me and I can refer some for you :D

5. EAT!

I have been a bride myself and I know that with all the preparations, you will tend to not eat. But please, do eat...to avoid nausea. If you are thinking that you will get to eat at the reception...think again! I myself did not get a chance to eat at the party! Because you will be busy with all the photo taking and programme not to mention entertaining your guests. So I FORCE my brides to eat before I apply their lipsticks. :D

6. Go for the classic look

I have been asked by my brides why they cant do a specific makeup style that they see on magazines. The reason behind is that the classic look is timeless. So after 10 years, when you look in your wedding pictures..you do not want to see bue eyeshadows there right?! You dont want to cringe every time you see your wedding pictures right?!

7. And last but not the least....

SMILE! After all this is your special day! All eyes are on you and you worked so hard for this day...so enjoy and have fun! Work it girl! :D

Being a Makeup Artist

I am very much happy that more people are actually interested on becoming a makeup artist. However, I try to bring them back to reality that this job is not a walk in the park. It is not easy or glamorous as it may seem to look like. I try to tell potential students that they need to be 101 percent sure that they are staying for the long run. Why? Because of the amount of investment they will need to shell out. Well, unless they have extra cash to burn then by all means go ahead, but if they are going to put their hard earned moolah at stake it is best to think twice, err thrice or at best think really hard before taking the plunge.

Personally, I used up my savings and hard earned money for this career. Makeup school alone is quite expensive, my hubby and I have to let go of "lappy" our trusted notebook to be able to afford makeup school. But that is just the start. The most expensive part is the makeup products needed for school. You have to take into consideration the different skin tone of clients, thus you need to buy different shades of foundation, concealers, etc. And we all know that the good makeup brands are pricey. I, however believe that it is best to buy trusted brands because you are sure of its quality.

I remember back in makeup school, we were required to buy the 36 pcs brush set, I cried knowing that the budget that I have alloted is not enough. I have resorted to buying the 16 pcs instead. I survived by just borrowing the remaining brushes from my kind classmates. Every session I am torn between excitement and anxiety. Excitement because I am about to learn more! Anxiety because of whatever impending credit card abuse that is bound to happen due to the added requirements.

But I stayed on. I struggled but I stayed. What made me stay is the love and respect for this craft. Yes, love and respect. I stayed not because of desire to be famous or glamorous, I stayed because I am happy whenever I can make another person feel giddy with excitement once they see their reflection after the makeup session. I stayed because I love interacting with my clients. I stayed not because I wanted to be famous or meet famous people, but because I feel good whenever I am doing my craft. I stayed because I feel useful and appreciated.

I say this is not a glamorous job. This career is a lot of hard work. You have to live and breathe the craft. You have to be committed and armed with the desire to be the best of what you can be. I have done a couple of gigs when I was doubling over with stomach cramps and high fever. But the client never noticed...that is where professionalism will be put to use. Unlike the regular 8-5 job, makeup artist do not have the luxury of having sick leaves. If we have committed our services for a client then we have to honor it.

I have done this post to enlighten those who have been asking me a about how it is to be a makeup artist. Bottom line is, as long as you are having fun regardless of all the physical pain (backache) and challenges then you are on the right track. That is where the good part is, when you are actually "enjoying" your job then it is really not work at the end of the day right? :D
